Spring FicFrenzy, 2026 – Introducing My Project!

Good morning, Cyberspace!

Today’s post is incredibly exciting. Back when I first started blogging in 2016, one of my FAVORITE things to write about was, well, what I was writing about. Over time, life sort of shifted, and my writings took a backseat to the other, more “important” things vying for my attention. (I’m not proud of this, and someday I think I’d like to talk about it a little bit more from a new perspective) 2025 brought a lot of revelations, however, and I am pleased to say that I am more on fire for my stories than I have been in years!

I think there’s something about this time of year that lights my creative fire. Spring is a time for everything new and fresh and clean… Back before NaNoWriMo went up in flames, I would be preparing for April’s Camp NaNoWriMo session right about now. Luckily for me, there is another writing event happening right now that is much more aligned with not only my schedule, but what I believe, as well.

And that is exactly what we are talking about in today’s post!

SPRING FIC FRENZY, 2026 – INTRODUCING PROJECT GOBLIN

WHAT IS FICFRENZY?

FicFrenzy is an event created and hosted by the most magical Christine Smith! Christine is a writer, a blogger, and has always been one of my writing/blogging role models. If you have somehow not read any of her work yet, I truly recommend checking out her blog. (You can find more information on FicFrenzy and how to sign up, as well!)

If I’m being fully transparent, I have tried to participate in FicFrenzy before. Many times, actually, and each time I have subsequently failed. This was during the period of time when my writing wasn’t a priority, and I can clearly look back on those moments and see where I actively failed to make writing a part of my daily routine.

Of course, even now I still struggle. Getting back up on that horse isn’t easy, folks! But I am proud to say that this spring, I am participating in FicFrenzy—and if it isn’t too bold of me to say, I believe that this will be the Frenzy that I actually win.

(winning, of course, isn’t the ultimate goal…but for me, it would be incredible to complete a writing challenge after so long!)

THE PROJECT

So what am I working on this spring? Ohoho, I am so glad you asked! That is a very good question. I have three projects that I have been working on for…er…years. And those three projects, until they are complete, will continue to be the obsessions of my hyperfixations. The projects are as follows:

  • everlost – a ya sci-fi/fantasy
  • Project Sunset – a ya fantasy
  • Project Goblin – a ya paranormal fantasy

For 2026’s Spring FicFrenzy, I am working on Project Goblin! This book has been on my heart for a very long time now, but I feel like it has finally gotten to a point where I am capable of telling it, truly, the way it was always meant to be written.

I don’t know if this happens to anyone else, but sometimes, when writing, I hit a snag in my project, and no amount of brainstorming, no amount of rewriting, no amount of thinking can get me through it. It’s something that I simply must wait through. And then, one day, I will come back to it and finally understand the thing that was missing from the project. I will finally know how it’s meant to be written. And deep inside of myself, I know that I wouldn’t have been able to write it that way from the start.

That’s the sort of thing that’s happened with Project Goblin. I wrote the first draft. I tried to revise. I hit a snag. And now that I’ve gained some distance and perspective, I finally know how the story is meant to be written. It feels a little hocus pocus, maybe, but it’s true. Project Goblin is ready to be finished—and I am using Spring FicFrenzy to jumpstart that!

THE GOAL

I’ll go into more detail about writing routine and deadlines and all of that fun stuff in another post, but for right now, here’s the general goal outline for Project Goblin as a whole:

STEP ONE – write 30,000 words during Spring FicFrenzy (FicFrenzy runs from March 15th to April 15th, so that’s 1,000 words per day. It’ll be a stretch with my current word output, but one that I’m willing to work for!)

STEP TWO – write a total of 75,000 words by the end of May (or until the draft is complete)

STEP THREE – beta readers!

Again, more will be said on beta readers once the actual draft is finished (or at least close enough to being finished that I can actually think about beta readers). But I have a few friends and family members who are excited to read it for me, so I’m hopeful that I will not disappoint.

It all starts with FicFrenzy, though. Writing that first 30,000 words will push me close to the 50k mark on the manuscript. It will also be the most I have written towards a project since… well, since a very long time ago. And that is something I am greatly looking forward to!

WRAPPING IT ALL TOGETHER

As of writing this, Spring FicFrenzy begins in just two short days (by the time you’re reading this, however, it will have already started!). In the time between then and now, I am preparing myself by doing writing sprints, as well as testing my perseverance by getting up earlier in the morning to do some light writing before work. The latter was unfortunately offset the past few days by a blasted head cold, but it’s all good. I’m feeling much better now and am eager to get back to my morning writings!

Next week, I will update you all on how the first week of Spring FicFrenzy went! We’ll go over writing practices that I’ve implemented throughout the week, and I’ll share my current wordcount!

Let’s do this!
